Description
The fishes, prawns and shrimps remain under different kinds of stress in their entire rearing period. Prawns and shrimps are more susceptible to stress than any other animals because of a greater dependence upon their surrounding environment. Change of environment, increased stocking density, adverse climate, poor water conditions inferior diet etc. predispose the aquatic species to stressful conditions. Stress disturbs the normal physiological equilibrium or homeostasis of the prawns by forcing a reallocation of energy within its system. Stress drains metabolic energy that would otherwise be utilized for maintaining normal body functions such as growth, digestion, osmoregulation, disease resistance, tissue repair and reproduction etc. Stress adversely affects the production performance, reproductive efficiency, longevity and survival of aquatic species. Stress causes oxidative damage to cells and higher release of cortisol in blood. Even slightly elevated level of cortisol suppresses immune functions by decreasing antibody titer and phagocytes production and slowing the body's response to injury and infection. (APPROX PRICE)
