Description
Dissolved oxygen (D.O) is of great importance for aquatic species since it is a critical factor for their existence. Reduced level of D.O causes stress to aquatic species. Low oxygen availability in the pond can deteriorate aquatic animal (especially shrimp) health and production. Reduced D.O level also triggers the release of toxic gases like hydrogen sulfide and ammonia and promotes the growth of anaerobic and secondary pathogens. Consequently, the shrimp and fish become susceptible to opportunistic pathogens and disease outbreaks.
